One week, two airline accidents

Given that I’ve been obsessed over aviation somewhat more than usual as of late…

May 30th, 2008: A Grupo Taca A320 with 140 passengers onboard has overshot the runway in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, and ended up in the middle of the street. There were some fatalities. Someone has linked a pretty nice collection of photos of the accident. The airport is apparently now closed for international flights for at least two months.

May 25th, 2008: A Kalitta Air 747-200 has broken apart on a rejected takeoff and subsequent runway overrun in Brussels. Granted, this was a freighter, and the flight crew has survived, but nevertheless it looks impressive. Imagine if this had been a passenger flight!
